Mumbai, 17 October (Hindustan Reporter). The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) team arrested three smugglers, including an airport employee, at Mumbai Airport on the night of 15-16 October. AIU team has recovered gold worth Rs 92.13 lakh from them. In another case, a passenger coming from Dubai was arrested at Mumbai airport itself and 455 grams of gold dust in the form of wax, worth Rs 33 lakh, was recovered from him. Along with this, expensive phones worth about Rs 6.11 lakh were seized.

According to Air Intelligence Unit sources, last night their team, based on special intelligence, was following a transit passenger from Dubai who was about to go to Bangkok. The passenger was seen going to the washroom with an airport employee, raising suspicion. The employee was stopped and his undergarments were searched, in which 1.27 kg of 24 carat gold dust worth Rs 92,13,437 was found. After this, another passenger was also caught from the airport premises itself.

Both of them confessed in their statement that they had smuggled gold twice before. Both the persons were later arrested under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. Similarly, 455 grams of gold powder in the form of wax, worth Rs 33,00,880, was recovered from another passenger. Expensive mobile phones worth Rs 6,11,790 were seized from him. The three arrested smugglers are being interrogated thoroughly.
