870 mountaineers got permission to climb 37 peaks in Nepal

Kathmandu, October 17 (IANS). The Nepal government has issued 870 permits to climbers to climb 37 mountains in the country during the autumn mountaineering season.

The tourism department on Wednesday allowed 668 men and 202 women from 70 countries and territories to climb the peaks, which include the world’s seventh and eighth highest peaks Mount Dhaulagiri (8,167 metres) and Mount Manaslu (8,163 metres).

According to Xinhua news agency, 73 of the climbers are from the US, while 72 are from China and 69 from France.

Rakesh Gurung, director of the tourism department, said, “We still have more than a month left for this season. We hope to surpass last year’s numbers.”

About 1,300 permits were issued by the agency during the fall 2023 climbing season.

The autumn mountaineering season in Nepal starts in September and continues till November.
