Kolkata, 18 October (Hindustan Reporter). A massive fire broke out at ESI Hospital in Sealdah, Kolkata on Friday morning. Black smoke was seen coming out from the second floor of the hospital at 5 am, following which 10 fire tenders reached the spot and the fire was brought under control at 7:40 am.

On receiving information about the incident, State Fire Minister Sujit Bose reached the hospital. According to primary information, about 80 patients were admitted in the hospital at that time. Most of the patients were shifted to safe places. Some patients were shifted to Maniktala ESI hospital.

There is no news of any casualty in the accident but one patient had trouble breathing due to the smoke and his condition is said to be critical. The Fire Minister said, due to the puja, many patients had taken leave and gone home, due to which major damage or loss of life was averted. The fire fighters worked bravely.

The cause of the fire is being investigated. The hospital administration has announced that the outdoor department will remain closed on Friday.
