New Delhi: Team India skipper Rohit Sharma came up with a hilarious response to a fan, who asked him about his future in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The incident happened during the ongoing Test match between India and New Zealand at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The clip of Rohit’s witty reply to the fan has left the internet in splits.

In the video, Rohit can be seen walking towards the dressing room when a fan from the stands asked him which team he would play for in the IPL next season. “IPL mein kaun sa team (which team in the IPL),” the fan asked Rohit. “Kaun sa chahiye bol (which team do you want),” Rohit replied.

The fan, a Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) supporter, requested Rohit to come to RCB next season. “RCB main aa jao (Come to RCB),” the fan shouted with no response from the Indian captain.

Rohit’s response to the fan comes amid speculations that his future with Mumbai Indians is uncertain after the Hitman was sacked from captaincy and replaced by Hardik Pandya last season. Ever since his sacking last year, there were reports that not everything was well in the MI dressing room and that the players were divided into two groups.

With the retention deadline approaching ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, it remains to be seen if the five-time champions will keep Rohit, who is their most successful captain of all time. Rohit played all 14 matches for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024 and finished as the highest run-getter for the team with 417 runs at a strike rate of 150.

Mumbai Indians likely to retain Rohit Sharma

As per a report in Indian Express, five-time champions Mumbai Indians are set to retain former skipper Rohit, contrary to the rumours that IPL 2024 was his last season with the franchise. The report also claims that the franchise will also retain the likes of skipper Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah. Mumbai Indians will have to spend at least Rs 61 crore from their overall purse to retain all 4 players.
