The Supreme Court Women’s Advocate Association (SCWLA) has described the remarks of former Supreme Court judge Markandeya Katju as shocking and derogatory. Katju wrote on social media on August 20 that the women lawyers who turned to me, I gave a verdict in their favor.

SCWLA said on Saturday that this statement is a direct attack on every female lawyer’s dignity, honesty and professional identity. Such words show the hard work and ability of women inferior. SCWLA said,

SCWLA demanded Katju for an unconditional public apology and appealed to all the lawyers to strongly oppose such a mentality. At the same time, seeing the controversy growing, Katju on Thursday described it as a joke, apologizing on the social media platform X.

Former judge’s statement is being criticized on social media

Katju’s statement is also responding to social media. People said that this comment is not compatible with the level of a former judge. Critics say that even after retiring, the judge should maintain the dignity of the post on which he has been.

Some lawyers wrote that such a statement stains judicial honesty and gives a wrong message that instead of hard work, one can get progress by blinking an eye. Many users and lawyers called this statement derogatory for the judiciary. A lawyer wrote on social media that the orders given by him should be reviewed.

Katju and old relationship between controversies

Katju, who retired from the Supreme Court in 2011, has been in the news due to his sharp comments earlier. His statements on politics, poetry and philosophy created controversy many times. He often writes on social media with Urdu lions and personal stories, but his comments have faced criticism by calling him inflammatory many times.
