Kathmandu: Nepal has also joined the ‘International Big Cat Alliance’ launched by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. PM Modi started it as a global initiative to conserve seven major species of big cats. It is named ‘International Big Cat Alliance’ (IBCA). Now Nepal has taken an important environmental step by becoming its official member.

Why PM Modi made IBCA

The purpose of creating this alliance by PM Modi is to promote the conservation of big cats around the world and bring various countries on a platform for cooperation in this direction. On Saturday, IBCA announced that Nepal has signed the draft agreement of the organization, which has now become a full member of it. Let us know that IBCA is a global alliance, in which 90 countries have been involved in the conservation of big cats.

Which animals preserve IBCA

This organization promotes cooperation and research for the conservation of species such as tiger, lion, leopard, snow leopard, cheetah, jaguar and puma. Nepal’s participation is an important step for this alliance, as Nepal already has major species of animals such as snow leopard, tiger and general leopard. IBCA said that the involvement of Nepal will not only strengthen the defense of these species, but will also speed up protection efforts globally. The organization congratulated the Nepal government for the move taken towards “shared ecological security” and hoped that this would further strengthen regional cooperation.

What is the status of tigers in Nepal

Nepal has made commendable progress in the field of tiger conservation in recent years. In 2009, where there were only 121 tigers in the country, according to the latest calculation of 2022, this number has increased to about 355. This notable achievement is evidence that the results can be positive if there is seriousness and dedication in conservation efforts.

When was IBCA started

The ‘International Big Cat Alliance’ was started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 9 April 2023 in Mysore, Karnataka. The purpose of this initiative is to make the preservation of seven major big cat species a global movement. This initiative of India is being appreciated not only regional but also globally. Nepal’s membership shows that South Asian countries are serious about environmental partnership and are working unitedly for the conservation of large wildlife. (PTI)
