Lahore: Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has suffered a major setback. A anti-terrorism court on Monday sentenced 75 leaders and workers of Imran Khan’s party’s party to 3 to 10 years imprisonment during the May 9, 2023 riots, and imprisoned the house of a senior leader of the ruling PML-N.

What did the officer tell?

A court official told ‘PTI-Bhasha’, “The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) of Faisalabad sentenced the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N )’s Punjab President Rana Sanaullah’s house to imprison 59 years and workers of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Party for three years and 16 others in the case of an attack on the house of Punjab President Rana Sanaullah. At the same time, 34 people were acquitted. ”

The official said that there were a total of 109 accused in the case, out of which the court sentenced 75 people.

Prominent people convicted

Prominent people convicted include former National Assembly Leader of Opposition Omar Ayub, former Senate Leader of Opposition Shibli Faraz, former Parliament Members of Parliament Jartaj Gul Ahmad Chatta, Ashraf Khan Sohna and Sheikh Rashid Shafiq (nephew of former internal minister Sheikh Rashid) and Kanwal Shojaab. Earlier, these leaders were also sentenced to 10-10 years imprisonment for the attack on ISI Bhavan in Faisalabad. Both of his cases will be punished together.

PTI condemns

The official said that former Information Minister Fawad Chaudhary and former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s son Jain Qureshi were acquitted in the case. Imran Khan’s supporters had violently demonstrated on 9 May 2023 against his arrest and vandalized several military and government buildings. Most of the incidents of violence took place in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. PTI strongly condemned the verdict, saying that the decision is based on fake cases and fake witnesses.
