Van Neekark took U-turn like Shahid Afridi, retirement took back
South African women’s cricket star Dane Van Neekark overturned the decision of his retirement, surprising the cricket fans and is ready to return to international cricket. Shareing the news of his return from his retirement, Van Neekar said that his passion for the national team is still alive and has further strengthened his desire to represent South Africa at the highest level.
Van Neekark had earlier retired from international cricket after being out of the Protiaz team for the T20 World Cup in March 2023 due to his failure in the Fitness Test. Van Neekark apologized to Cricket South Africa and the cricket community for his early retirement. He described this decision as an emotionally complex phase of his life.
Neekark shared the news of his retirement on X and wrote, “I am very happy to announce that I have decided to withdraw retirement from international cricket. This time has reminded me how much I have missed to represent my country and I am completely committed to give everything to get that opportunity again.”
He further wrote, “I apologize wholeheartedly for the way of retirement from Cricket South Africa and cricket family and I am very grateful for the occasion that I hope that one day I will be able to showcase my talent again on the international stage. I know that the level of team and women’s cricket is constantly increasing and I am ready to work hard to fulfill it. I am ready to work hard for this opportunity. Thank you all the people who supported me in this journey.
