NCW took a tough stand in the Nikki murder case, said- “Society will have to think, how?
National Women’s Commission Chairman Vijaya Rahatkar’s statement on Nikki murder case
The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken a tough stand on Nikki’s murder case for dowry in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The chairman of the commission Vijaya Rahatkar condemned the incident and said that it is wrong to consider daughters as jagir and such evil practices are a matter of concern.
Vijaya Rahatkar said, “I strongly condemn this incident. Daughters are not our jagirs to do whatever we want. Movements have been run in the country to eliminate such evil practices. Now these misdeeds have taken a new form, it is a matter of serious concern.”
He informed that NCW has taken cognizance of the matter and asked the Director General of Police of Uttar Pradesh (DGP) for speedy investigation. So far four people have been arrested in this case. He said, “The police is taking action fast … how can the society do this?”
Family is in shock: Rahatkar
Rahatkar further said that the NCW is in touch with the police and he has also spoken to the victim’s family. The family is in shock and the commission is with them. We are waiting to talk to them. He said that NCW has taken cognizance of the case yesterday and we have also written a letter to UP DGP requesting it to be investigated properly and action should be taken against it.
“Not delay in legal action”
The chairman of the Commission said, “We have also informed DGP that there should not be any delay in investigation and legal action. NCW will monitor the whole matter and ensure that the culprits get severe punishment.” Even after 75 years of independence, if our daughters are falling prey to dowry practice, nothing can happen worse. There is a very good law against dowry in our country, which has stringent provisions. Despite this, such evils come out. Society also needs to think on this subject.
