Criminal case against half MPs and MLAs of the country

The Central Government has recently introduced the 130th Constitution Amendment Bill in Parliament. There is a provision in this bill that if the Prime Minister, Chief Minister or Minister arrested in a criminal case and stays in jail for 30 days, he can be removed from the post.

At present, the situation is that 45% of the MLAs and 46% of the MPs across the country have criminal cases registered. Talking about crimes related to women, West Bengal is at the forefront of this. Andhra Pradesh is the second number.

45% of the MLAs across the country have declared criminal cases against them, while 29% are facing serious cases. Andhra Pradesh ranks first in the country in criminal cases on legislators. This is followed by Kerala, Telangana and Bihar.

This information has been revealed from a report by the NGO Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), which works for election reforms.

MPs with criminal records increased by 16% in 15 years in the country
This figure is continuously increasing in Parliament over time. In 2009, 30% of MPs had criminal cases and serious cases on 14%. In 2014, the figure of criminal cases against MPs became one-third and serious matters.

In 2019, 43% of MPs were accused of criminal cases and about 29% of serious allegations. This number increased further in the Parliament formed after the 2024 elections. Currently 46% of MPs are facing criminal cases and 31% serious cases.

Out of 30 Chief Ministers of the country, 12 i.e. 40% are criminal cases against the Chief Ministers. Of these, 10 ie 33 percent attempt to murder, there are serious cases like kidnapping and bribery. Telangana CM Revanth Reddy has the highest number of 89 cases registered. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is the richest Chief Minister of India. He has assets worth more than Rs 931 crore. The current 30 Chief Ministers of the country have a total assets of Rs 1632 crore. Chandrababu has about 57% of this.
