High Court notice to Punjab government regarding civic elections, orders to issue notification in 10 days

Chandigarh. Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued a contempt notice to the Punjab Government and the State Election Commission regarding the municipal elections in Punjab. He is accused of not following the orders of the High Court. The court has said in strict words that if the notification is not issued within 10 days, a fine of Rs 50 thousand will be imposed.

In fact, the court had earlier given orders to the Punjab government and the State Election Commission to issue notifications regarding holding civic elections in the first 15 days. But even after the court order, no action was taken. After which the court again issued a notice to the state government and the Election Commission regarding this matter. The court has said in its order that if the notification is not issued within 10 days, a fine of Rs 50,000 will be imposed and along with this, a contempt case will also be filed.

Let us tell you that the five-year tenure of Phagwara, Amritsar, Patiala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana Municipal Corporations and 42 Municipal Councils in the state has ended. But even after a lot of time has passed, elections are not being conducted. After which the matter reached the Punjab and Haryana High Court regarding the demand for elections. After the hearing on October 14th, the court had ordered that the election related notification should be issued within 15 days without warding. But this process did not happen within the stipulated time. During this period, government holidays had also come. After this, a contempt petition was filed regarding this matter.
