Petition in NGT on pollution caused by firecrackers, Supreme Court order has been violated, penalty should be imposed on Collector-SP of the districts
Palpal correspondent, Jabalpur. After Diwali in MP, the pollution level in many big cities had increased up to three times. Nagrik Consumer Margdarshak Manch has filed a contempt petition in the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on pollution caused by firecrackers. It has been said in the petition that the orders of the Supreme Court and NGT have been violated.
Dr. PG Naz Pandey, convenor of Nagarik Consumer Margdarshak Manch, said in the petition that on the night of Diwali and again on the second day, it had become difficult to breathe due to the pollution caused by firecrackers. Crackers were burst till late night. Fake green firecrackers, twine bombs, string bombs and the banned firecrackers were also burst in the entire state.
The orders of Supreme Court and National Green Tribunal have been violated the most in Indore, Ujjain, Bhopal, Jabalpur and Gwalior. He demanded in the petition that the National Green Tribunal itself should take action under Section 25 of the NGT Act or send its orders to the District Court for action. Under Section 28, strict action should be taken and penalty should be imposed on responsible officers, district collectors and police SPs.
It was also told in the petition that pollution due to firecrackers has been continuously increasing in Jabalpur, Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior and Ujjain for the last 3 years. In the petition filed earlier, NGT had asked the collectors of Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur to take action but the order was not followed.
