Chhath Puja Bank Holiday: Bank branches may be shut in certain states for Chhath Puja, an important festival in Eastern India.

New Delhi: Bank Holidays for Chhathh Puja have been laid down by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in certain states on account of the festival’s popularity in those areas. Chhath Puja is a festival dedicated to the Sun god in which women fast without water. The fast is broken only after making offerings to the Sun. According to RBI’s calendar, there are over 15 bank holidays in November 2024.

RBI classifies bank holidays into 3 categories, namely, as part of the Negotiable Instruments Act, as RTGS holiday and as closure of accounts.

Chhath Puja Bank Holiday

RBI mentioned bank holidays on November 7 and 8, 2024 for Chhath Puja. These holidays fall on Thursday and Friday. The holidays are followed by a weekend, i.e., Saturday and Sunday. Since November 9, 2024, is the second Saturday of the month, banks will remain closed according to RBI rules. Since Sundays are off for bank branches across the country, lenders will remain closed on November 10, 2024.

Overall, there are 4 Sundays off for banks on November 2024. Banks will also remain closed on 2 Saturdays this month, including November 2, 2024, which was Diwali Pratipada. Banks will also remain closed for festivals such as Egaas Bagwaal, Guru Nanak Jayanti, which falls on Kathik Purnima, Kanakdasa Jayanti and Seng Kutsnem.
