Terrorism now ‘borderless and invisible’, needs state-of-the-art technology: Amit Shah at anti-terrorism conference

New Delhi, November 7: Union Home Minister Amit Shah warned of “borderless and invisible” terror threats and stressed the need for cutting-edge technology to effectively deal with them.
Speaking at the inaugural session of the ‘Anti Terror Conference-2024’, Shah said, “Terrorist attacks and their conspiracies against us are borderless and invisible. If we have to deal with this accurately, our young officers will have to be equipped and trained with the highest technology. We will make it an important part of training in the coming days.”
Shah announced that the Home Ministry is taking the next step in its proactive approach to combat terrorism and will come up with a national counter-terrorism policy and strategy.
“We are taking the next step in the proactive approach that the Home Ministry has taken to fight terrorism, terrorists and the terrorism ecosystem. We will come up with a national counter-terrorism policy and strategy.”
“But as I said, police is a state subject and the fight has to be done by the state police only. All (central) agencies will support you from giving information to taking action,” Shah said.

Shah said Prime Minister Modi’s zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism is now accepted globally and the country has created a strong ecosystem to deal with it.
“75 years have passed since independence. So far, 36,468 policemen have sacrificed their lives to maintain the internal security of the country and the security of the borders. Today I would like to pay tribute to all of them for their spirit of supreme sacrifice and also thank their families on behalf of the country. Within 10 years of PM Modi becoming the Prime Minister of the country, the Indian government adopted a concrete strategy against terrorism. His slogan of zero tolerance against terrorism has been accepted today not only by India but by the entire world. A strong ecosystem has been created to fight terrorism within India,” he said.
The two-day ‘Anti-Terrorism Conference-2024’ is organized by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

According to the ministry, the main focus of the conference is to develop synergy among various stakeholders by establishing channels for coordinated action against the menace of terrorism in the spirit of ‘whole of government approach’ and presenting concrete inputs for future policy making. The two-day conference deliberated and deliberated on various matters of importance including developing prosecution and legal frameworks in counter-terrorism investigations, sharing of experiences and good practices, challenges and opportunities related to emerging technologies, international legal cooperation and strategies. The Home Ministry said in the release that the conference is being attended by senior police officers from states/UTs, officers from central agencies/departments dealing with issues related to counter-terrorism and experts from related fields like law, forensics, technology etc.
