Aid group resumes activities in famine affected camp
Port Sudan, 6 November (IANS). MSF has announced that it has resumed activities in the famine-hit camp for internally displaced people in El Fasher. El Fasher is the capital of the Sudanese state of North Darfur.
Non-governmental medical aid group Doctors Without Borders (MSF) said on social platform “2,433 boxes of supplies have been received.”
“This is only enough for five weeks,” the organization said, adding that in September our supply of medical food ran so low that we had to stop providing life-saving treatment to 5,000 children under the age of five amid an acute hunger crisis. Fell.”
In early August, MSF reported that it was forced to reduce the number of malnourished children receiving treatment in Zamzam camp because the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) had cut off access to medical supplies. Zamzam camp is one of the largest camps for displaced persons in the Darfur region of Sudan.
Sudan has been ravaged by deadly conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF since mid-April 2023.
According to the status report released by the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project on October 14, there have been more than 24,850 deaths due to the conflict, Xinhua news agency reported.
Since May 10, fierce clashes have been going on between the country’s two rival parties in El Fashar.
In late October, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appealed for an end to hostilities in war-torn Sudan and efforts to protect civilians.
