MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal expressed surprise at Canada’s actions, calling them “strange” and highlighting the timing of the ban. The Australia Today social media accounts were blocked shortly after they covered the press meet, raising questions about Canada’s stance on free speech. Jaiswal also referred to the media outlet as an important source for the Indian diaspora and criticized Canada’s hypocrisy in restricting freedom of expression.

During his recent visit to Australia, S. Jaishankar condemned the violence against Hindus and Hindu temples in Canada. He expressed his deep concerns over the activities of Khalistani groups that have been targeting Hindus. This was a key reason why Canada blocked Australia Today’s media outlets, as the news outlet reported on Jaishankar’s press conference.
