Chief Minister will administer oath of office to more than 10,000 sarpanches in Ludhiana on Friday
Punjab News: Chandigarh, November 7: Concrete preparations have been made to celebrate the festival of democracy on a large scale in the state. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann will administer the oath of office to the newly elected Sarpanches tomorrow Friday during a state level function at Cycle Valley in village Dhanansoo, Ludhiana.
Panchayats are considered ‘pillars of democracy’
This unique initiative of the State Government will further strengthen democracy at the grassroots level as Panchayats are considered the ‘pillars of democracy’. During the state-level ceremony, 10,031 sarpanches of 19 districts out of 13,147 gram panchayats of 23 districts elected in the recently concluded panchayat elections will be administered the oath by the Chief Minister. Sarpanches of the remaining four districts Sri Muktsar Sahib, Hoshiarpur, Barnala and Gurdaspur and 81,808 newly elected panches of 23 districts will be sworn in after the by-elections of Gidderbaha, Chabbewal, Barnala and Dera Baba Nanak assembly constituencies. The Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has set new standards in conducting Panchayat elections in a fair and transparent manner and these elections were held without the symbols of political parties, so as to keep the villages away from political factionalism and promote mutual brotherhood. Can become strong. In public interest, the state government had taken a historic decision to ban contesting Panchayat elections on the party’s election symbol. Its objective was to end the divisions arising out of factionalism in villages so that all-round development of rural areas could be ensured. With this noble step, the government has made special efforts to strengthen the Panchayati Raj system which will further encourage the development of villages.
Appealed to elect panchayat unanimously
Taking another important step during the Panchayat elections, the Chief Minister had appealed to the people of the state to rise above factionalism and elect the Panchayat unanimously, so that the brotherhood in the villages can be strengthened and comprehensive development can be ensured. This appeal of the Chief Minister received widespread support, as a result of which 3,037 Sarpanches were unanimously elected in the state. Of these, maximum 336 sarpanches were selected unanimously in Firozpur district, 335 sarpanches in Gurdaspur and 334 sarpanches in Tarn Taran. On this occasion, the Chief Minister said that the State Government has made proper arrangements for the success of this function as thousands of Panchayati representatives and other people from across the State are participating in this function. He said that no stone will be left unturned for the convenience of the people attending the function. He said that preparations have been made on a large scale by the administration so that people do not have to face any kind of problem. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that instructions have been issued to the concerned authorities to ensure well-organized traffic arrangements, parking of vehicles and other facilities so that people coming from far-flung places can easily reach the venue.
