Patna. Kartik Chhath, the great festival of sun worship, ended today in Bihar with the offering of Arghya to the rising Sun.
Kartik Chhath, a four-day long festival of folk faith in Bihar, began with the Nahay Khay ritual on November 5. Kharna Puja was completed on the second day. On the third day, the first Arghya was offered to the setting sun.
Today, on the fourth and last day of Chhath festival, thousands of men and women fasting in the capital Patna and other parts of the state offered Arghya to the rising sun. After offering the second Arghya, the 36-hour fast of the devotees ended and only after that the devotees took food.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar offered Arghya to the emerging Lord Bhaskar with reverence on the last day of Chhath, the great festival of folk faith, at his residence at One Anne Marg here and prayed to God for the happiness, peace and prosperity of the state and the countrymen.
The four-day Chhath festival concluded today with lakhs of devotees offering ‘Ardhya’ to the rising Sun at the historical and mythological place Dev in Aurangabad district. Devotees have been queuing up since early morning today to worship Lord Bhaskar in the Tretayugin Sun Temple of Dev. It is a popular belief that by observing Dev Chhath fast and worshiping in the Tretayugin Sun Temple, the wishes of the devotees are fulfilled and on this occasion, there is a thrilling experience of the physical presence of Lord Bhaskar here.
According to the news received from Gaya, from early morning on the last day of Chhath Puja, devotees reached Kendui Ghat, Pita Maheshwar Ghat, Rai Bindeshwari Ghat, Mauryaghat, Mahadev Ghat, Lakhibagh Ghat and other ghats of the city and offered Arghya to Lord Bhaskar. Seeing this, a huge crowd of devotees gathered at various ghats of Falgu river. People offered prayers to Lord Bhaskar with full religious rituals and prayed for the happiness, prosperity and peace of their families.
According to the information received from Dehri on Son, in Dehri on Son of Rohtas district, on the fourth day of Mahaparva Chhath, the devotees offered prayers to Lord Surya on the banks of Son river and various ghats of the Western Connective Canal.
