Sony PS5 Pro India launch canceled officially; Here’s what we know so far
Sony PS5 Pro India launch cancelled: Sony recently dropped its most powerful gaming console, PS5 Pro, to date. The console is available in major markets like the US, UK, Germany, and more. The Ps5 Pro India launch was expected to happen somewhere around February 2025. However, the latest official update regarding the same has broken a lot of hearts in the country. It has been officially confirmed that the Sony Ps5 Pro India launch has been cancelled.
Sony PS5 Pro India launch not on the cards
In an official statement, Sony mentioned that the PS5 Pro will not be available in a few countries (and the list includes India too) where the 6GHz wireless band used in IEEE 802.11be (WiFi 7) has not been approved to use. If you dig a little deeper into the same, then you’ll know that it has happened due to the Indian 6GHz policy where the telecom giants in the country are fighting it out for spectrum usage.
On one hand, the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has said that 6GHz spectrum should be only licensed for 5G services. On the other hand, IT companies are fighting to keep the spectrum usage unlicensed for WiFi consumption. And this battle between telcos and IT companies has put a stop to the official launch of PS5 Pro in the country via official channels.

Another thing to note here is that the PS5 Pro is already available in India through third-party channels. Nonetheless, you should know, as a consumer, that unofficial purchases come with a certain amount of risk. And another issue here is that the PS5 Pro would have reached the Indian market at a price of around Rs 58,000 to Rs 68,000. But the unofficial channels are selling the same for close to one lakh rupees which is insane. To top it all off, you will not even get any warranty even after paying double the amount for the console.
