Political Reactions on AMU’s Minority Status

Several political leaders have also responded to the Supreme Court’s remarks regarding AMU’s minority status. Hyderabad MP and AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi commented, “It is an important day for Muslims of India. The 1967 judgment had rejected minority status of #AMU when in fact it was. Article 30 states that minorities have the right to establish and administer their educational institutions in a manner that they deem fit. The right of minorities to educate themselves has been upheld. I congratulate all students and faculty of AMU today. It does not matter if the University was established before the Constitution, or if it was set up by a law of the govt. It is a minority institution if it was established by minorities. All the arguments of the BJP were rejected.”

Congress MP Imran Pratapgarhi also shared his response on the Supreme Court’s remark, saying, “Long live Aligarh Muslim University. Congratulations to the honorable Supreme Court for its wonderful decision; minority status will remain intact. The government’s conspiracies failed.”

While talking to news agency ANI, Former BJP leader and Cabinet Minister Shahnawaz Hussain stated, “The Supreme Court in its judgment has said that the matter will go to a regular bench of the Supreme Court. Till then, AMU will have the minority status. There has been a lot of discussions regarding it. When you take help from the central government the rules which are followed everywhere should be followed there also.”
