Kejriwal said- Modi removed 11% tax on American cotton
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal held a press conference on Thursday. He said that the Central Government has cheated Indian farmers by removing 11% import duty on cotton for America.
Kejriwal said, ‘US President Donald Trump has imposed 50% tariff on Indian products. In response, India should have imposed 100% tariff on America. But PM Modi is taxing American goods. This decision will force Indian farmers to commit suicide.
Amid Kejriwal’s allegations, the central government released a press release and said that the period of tax -free of cotton coming from the US has been extended till 31 December. According to the Finance Ministry, this step has been taken to meet the demand for the domestic textile industry.
5 big things about Kejriwal’s allegation, asked- Why this duty was removed
“The last few days, Prime Minister Modi took some such decisions behind the back, stolen, which is a great deception with farmers across the country. 90-95% farmers do not know what happened and when these decisions come out, there will be no option but to commit suicide.”
“Cotton coming from America used to lend exemption to the first 11% duty. The Center has exempted America. Now on August 19 to September 30, ie cotton coming from America will not be taxed. This will make American cotton cheaper by Rs 15-20 per kg compared to Indian cotton in the country’s market.
“By September 30, the textile industry will buy American cotton at cheap prices. When our farmer takes his cotton in mandis and markets in October, who will buy it. Because the need for the textile industry will have already been fulfilled.”
“People are saying that Adani’s case is going on in America. Adani is about to arrest. PM is putting the country at stake to save Adani. If this is the case then it is a great deception with the people of the country.”
“The Aam Aadmi Party will hold a meeting on September 7 in Chotla in Surendranagar district of Gujarat. Surendranagar has the highest cotton growing farmers of Gujarat. I want to tell all political parties and farmer organizations that we have to stand together to save these poor farmers.”
