Bollywood’s glitter often hides the shadow of personal and economic conflicts. For many film stars, the silver screen is not the only means of earning. From real estate to commercial undertakings, actors have often tried to secure their future beyond films. While some got great success, some had to face heavy losses. The most tremendous example of this is Amitabh Bachchan, who stepped into business at the peak of his stardom, but soon found himself on the verge of bankruptcy. Senior actor Ashish Vidyarthi has now remembered that turmoil of Amitabh Bachchan’s life. In a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, the student talked about the patience of this legendary star in those days when the creditors used to stand in queue outside his house. He also shared his personal experiences working with a superstar at that indefinite time.
Told all the experience
The student said, ‘I can never forget the experience of working with him in the death. This was his return film ‘. Sharing a very personal anecdote, when Megastar wrote a letter to the student’s mother, he said, ‘My father was very old and the mother had a heart attack. I used to go to Delhi every night to stay with him and then returned to Mumbai by flight in the morning. During this time I requested Amitabh ji whether he could write a letter for my mother? He accepted my request and wrote a letter. My mother was recovering from a heart attack at that time and was on ventilator. I read them that letter and told them. ‘ Despite his crisis, Bachchan never allowed his pain on the set. The student further said, no one could tell him that he was going through such a difficult period. I again worked with him in the 1998 film Major Saab. He used to sit in his character all night. Neither used to remove beard-mustache, nor beard, wore everything. If someone has ever been disappointed in his life, then Amit ji is the best example of this.
The most painful phase of the 90s was
The era mentioned by the student was one of the most dark chapters in Bachchan’s life. In the mid -1990s, his company Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited (ABCL) suffered heavy economic losses. His dream of creating a corporate empire in the entertainment world broke, and he was burdened with debt. Later Bachchan himself admitted, ‘Nobody gave us good economic advice. We were assured that nothing would happen, so we signed the papers with a personal guarantee without any concern. At that time, his iconic bungalow was also in danger, all his property was confiscated in lieu of debt. Amitabh Bachchan once described it as the worst time of my life, when he and Jaya Bachchan unknowingly gave their personal guarantee for the company’s debts.
Kayanat reversed with strong resolution
Nevertheless, in those days, Bachchan was not identified by defeat, but with determination. The student insisted that people complain of not getting work and being left behind, but what they have endured. There was a time when he had a hold on the whole country. After being injured on the set of the porter, people did not even eat food. When he was on the verge of bankruptcy, he still faced that time. He never cried to anyone for anything. From the verge of bankruptcy to become one of the most successful actors and respected personalities once again, Amitabh Bachchan’s journey remains an example of flexibility and survival, facing unimaginable obstacles.
