Meta is reportedly planning to introduce ads to its text-based platform Threads by the start of next year. According to a report by the Information, Threads will let a small number of advertisers make and publish their ads in January to see how this unfolds. Instagram head Adam Mosseri has also confirmed that Meta is most definitely planning to bring ads to Threads, he did not comment on the timeline though.

Mosseri said, “I get why people have concerns, but at the end of the day we’re a business and Threads needs to make enough money to pay for the people and servers that it takes to run the service and provide it to people for. free.”

Meta’s Focus On Ads

In its latest earnings report, Meta announced $39.8 billion in advertising revenue over the last quarter, accounting for 97 percent of its total income. During the earnings call, Meta’s CFO, Susan Li, noted that the company does not anticipate Threads becoming a “meaningful driver” of revenue by 2025.

While details about how ads will be integrated into Threads remain unclear, one possibility is “sponsored” posts, as hinted by reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi, who recently uncovered signs of this feature under development.
