Lima, November 16 (IANS). The leaders of South Korea, the US and Japan announced the establishment of a secretariat for trilateral cooperation. The announcement was made during a multilateral summit in Peru. The three countries condemned the alliance between North Korea and Russia as ‘dangerously expanding’ Moscow’s war in Ukraine.
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, US President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba issued a joint statement after a trilateral meeting in Lima during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, Yonhap news agency reported. .
The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the trilateral partnership. According to him, this is important to counter regional security threats and promote stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
“Today we announce the establishment of a Trilateral Secretariat, which will be responsible for coordination and implementation of our shared commitments,” the three leaders said in a joint statement.
“This new secretariat will strive to ensure that the work we do together will further strengthen our objectives and actions to make the Indo-Pacific region a prosperous, connected, resilient, stable and secure region,” the statement said “
The three leaders at the meeting condemned North Korea for sending its troops to support Russia’s war against Ukraine.
