Santos, her co-worker, had confessed to the murder, claiming he strangled Barbosa after she rejected his romantic advances.

New Delhi: The community of Cidade Jardim in Goiania, Brazil, was shaken to its core when a 38-year-old caregiver, Cintia Ribeiro Barbosa, was found brutally murdered on Tuesday, November 5. The crime has been allegedly committed by her co-worker Marcelo Junior Bastos Santos.

Barbosa, a newlywed mother of four, was beloved by the elderly couple she cared for and had dedicated six years of her life to their well-being. Her husband, who had married her just eight days prior, reported her missing when she failed to return home from work and did not answer her phone. This prompted investigation agencies to search  about her whereabouts.

Barbosa’s body was found on a property adjacent to the house where she worked. Police investigations revealed a chilling truth during the investigation that led to the arrest of her co-worker. Santos, her co-worker, had confessed to the murder, claiming he strangled Barbosa after she rejected his romantic advances.

According to reports, Santos had asked Barbosa for a kiss, but she refused, slapping him in response. This seemingly minor act of rejection triggered a violent rage in Santos, who allegedly placed Barbosa in a chokehold and strangled her and tied her her hands with a diaper tape.

He then disposed of her body, throwing it over the wall into the neighboring property, hoping to cover up the murder of her co-worker.

The authorities, initially suspecting an accomplice in the disposal of Barbosa’s body, reviewed security camera footage, revealing no evidence of anyone entering the premises besides Santos and the bedridden elderly couple under Barbosa’s care.

Police Chief Carlos Alfama explained the gruesome details, stating that Santos had initially believed Barbosa was dead, but upon realising she regained consciousness, he strangled her again using masking tape. “He confessed to the crime in detail and confirmed what the security cameras also showed us. He acted alone,” Alfama confirmed.
