Ghaziabad double murder: The accused, Mohamad Zeeshan, is believed to have killed Shaheen Parveen, 34, and her infant daughter, Aafiya, as part of a personal vendetta. Zeeshan, who had been living in Pune as a welder, was preparing to travel to Dubai for work but became embroiled in a dispute with his brother, Burhaan, and his wife, Shaheen. Zeeshan suspected that Shaheen had persuaded Burhaan not to lend him the Rs 30,000 he needed for his Dubai visa, further escalating the tensions within the family.

New Delhi: A 28-year-old man has been arrested in Ghaziabad after allegedly strangling his sister-in-law and her three-month-old daughter to death. The murders occurred on Monday morning in Bamheta village, following a personal dispute within the family, according to an NDTV report.

The accused, Mohamad Zeeshan, is believed to have killed Shaheen Parveen, 34, and her infant daughter, Aafiya, as part of a personal vendetta.

A Dubai trip and an agent’s demand

Zeeshan had travelled to Ghaziabad ahead of his planned trip to Dubai, which had been delayed several times by a private contractor. The situation became even more strained when the agent demanded an additional Rs 15,000 before Zeeshan could travel. This disagreement caused a row between the brothers, but it was the financial tension that seemed to drive Zeeshan to violence.

On the morning of the murders, Zeeshan attacked Shaheen and Aafiya while Burhaan was away at work. He first strangled Shaheen with a scarf in front of her two children before turning to the infant, Aafiya, and killing her with his hands. Shaheen’s three-year-old daughter, Anbiya, managed to escape the house, crying for help, and survived the ordeal.

The crime was discovered when neighbours heard Anbiya’s cries and found the bodies of Shaheen and Aafiya inside the home. The young girl later told her father, Burhaan, about the assault and killings.

Financial motive and arrest

According to reports, Zeeshan’s motive was not only personal but financially driven. Two months back, Zeeshan had been humiliated by Shaheen’s cousin, Afroz, during a dispute over a construction project in Bihar, which added to Zeeshan’s anger. But it was the financial strain, particularly his need for Rs 30,000 to go to Dubai, that appears to have triggered the deadly violence. Zeeshan suspected that Shaheen had influenced Burhaan not to give him the money.

After committing the crime, Zeeshan fled the scene and travelled to Noida, where he allegedly stole a woman’s mobile phone and made threatening calls. Police tracked his movements and arrested him on Tuesday while he was attempting to return to Ghaziabad.

Burhaan, who works as a carpenter, explained that Zeeshan had been set to travel to Dubai on November 9, but his plans were delayed by issues with the visa agent. The agent had asked for more money, causing tension between the brothers. Burhaan revealed that the agent had promised Zeeshan would fly to Dubai the following week, which likely intensified the argument that led to the tragedy.
