583 general coaches joined the railway fleet, soon more than 1000 such coaches will be added to 650 and a half regular trains.
New Delhi. In view of the ever-increasing interest and attraction of the general public towards rail travel, Railways is also accelerating the expansion of corresponding facilities. In this sequence, Railways has added about six hundred new additional coaches of General Class (GS) in various trains in the last three months.
All these coaches have been added to regular trains. Not only this, in the current month of November, more than one thousand such GS class coaches will be added to about six hundred and fifty regular trains. According to an estimate, about one lakh passengers will be benefited daily by the addition of these new GS coaches in the railway fleet. Apart from these, work is going on rapidly on the plan to include a large number of GS class coaches in the railway fleet in the next two years.
Railway Board has given detailed information here about the new facilities for general category railway passengers. Railway Board Executive Director (Information and Publicity) Dilip Kumar said that general category passengers are among the top priorities of the Railways. Railways is working in various directions to provide maximum facilities to this category of passengers. Under this, a total of 583 new coaches of GS category were manufactured during the three months from July to October. Also, these newly manufactured coaches have been added to 229 regular trains. Thousands of additional passengers are benefiting from this every day. He said that by the month of November, a total of more than one thousand new coaches of GS category will be ready and added to the railway fleet. These will be added to 647 regular trains. With the inclusion of these coaches, about one lakh additional passengers will be able to avail the benefits of rail travel every day.
The Executive Director said that in view of the facilities for general class passengers, construction of new GS coaches is going on at a fast pace. He said that in the next two years, more than 10 thousand such non-air conditioned general class GS coaches will be included in the railway fleet. Of these, there will be more than six thousand GS coaches, while the remaining coaches will be sleeper class. With the inclusion of such a large number of non-AC coaches, about eight lakh additional passengers of general class will be able to travel by rail daily. All these newly manufactured coaches of GS category will be of LHB. This will help in making the journey comfortable and convenient as well as safe and fast. These new LHB coaches are relatively lighter and stronger than the traditional ICF rail coaches. In case of an accident, the damage in these coaches will also be minimal.
