Answering this question, Lara Dutta had said that ‘I think that contests like Miss Universe Pageant give a platform to young women like us to move forward in the fields in which we want to move forward, whether Be it entrepreneurship, armed forces or politics. This platform gives us an opportunity to express our opinions. Makes us strong and independent as we are today.’ The judges were convinced by Lara’s answer and chose her as Miss Universe of the year 2000.

This was the same year when Dia Mirza and Priyanka Chopra also won the titles of Miss Asia Pacific and Miss World. When Priyanka Chopra appeared on Simi Grewal’s chat show, she was asked whether there was a sense of competition between the three of them? On this PC said, when you are a part of the pageant, it is obvious that there will be a feeling of competition among you to outdo each other. But I look at Lara Dutta with great respect.
Priyanka further told that Lara was very experienced. I was 17 years old and Diya was 18 years old. We didn’t know anything.
