Why is there a ruckus about E20 Petrol, what Supreme Court said, the statement of industry about mileage and warranty
What is E20 Petrol: While the Center considers ethanol blended petrol (E20) to be a big step towards the country’s energy security and to increase the earnings of farmers, millions of vehicles are considering it as a problem for themselves. The Supreme Court also heard the petition filed on the matter. It is also afraid of mileage by its use. On this, the industry says that the difference is actually very modest and the mileage of the vehicle depends more on driving habits and maintenance. The use of E20 petrol is part of the strategy of promoting the ethanol mixture by the government in India by 2030. This mixture can be used in the engine of vehicles without any major changes.
What is E20 Fuel? How is ready
Ethanol is a different type of fuel. Its use reduces pollution. That is, this can also drive the vehicle and will not harm the environment. Since ethanol is produced locally, E20 fuel proves to be helpful for Indian farmers and reduces dependence on imported oil. It is beneficial for both economy and environment. Ethanol, which is made from sugarcane, maize or other agricultural products, is a renewable resource and helps reduce vehicles emissions by mixing it in petrol.
What is the reason for people’s problems
Recently some social media posts claimed that the E20 may enter the tank of vehicles and cause damage. On this, oil companies and petroleum dealers made it clear that no such complaint has been officially received nor any such scientific study exists.
Who filed a petition
The petition filed by advocate Akshay Malhotra stated that 20% ethanol mixed petrol (E20) is not favorable for all vehicles. Crores of vehicle owners have to use fuel in compulsion which is not suitable for the engine of their vehicles. The petition has demanded that ethanol-free petrol should also be provided at all petrol pumps, and it should be clearly written on every pump how much ethanol is mixed in it.
Supreme Court refuses to consider the petition
The Supreme Court on Monday refused to consider a petition against implementing 20 percent ethanol mixed petrol (EBP-20) across the country. The case is case, India’s Chief Justice BR Gavai and Justice K.K. Vinod came to hear before Chandran’s bench. The petition filed by advocate Akshay Malhotra claimed that millions of drivers are forced to use fuel that is not favorable for their vehicles. However, the bench did not agree with the arguments raised in the petition. The central government strongly opposed the petition and claimed that the E20 fuel is beneficial for sugarcane farmers. Attorney General R. Venkatramani argued that the petitioner is a ‘namdhari’ of a ‘big lobby’ with vested interests, and asked, “Will people outside the country decide what kind of fuel India should use?”

What was the argument of the petitioner
According to the petitioner, the report expressed concern over the reduction of fuel efficiency of old vehicles, especially before 2023, mixed petrol powered vehicles. The argument before the back was argued that people should be given an option, as the E20 is suitable for use only in the vehicle after April 2023. The petitioner clarified that he is not against the E20, as it is a logical progress in relation to fuel, but at least suppliers should let people tell people that some vehicles are not in accordance with it.
What is benefit
Promoting ethanol-mixed fuel has reduced India’s dependence on global oil imports, causing the country to come to the leading position. The low production cost of ethanol helps to keep fuel prices stable, even when the global oil market is upheaval. If your car is favorable, the E20 may increase the performance of the fuel engine, making the drive more smooth and reduces stress on the machine. Switching on E20 petrol means reducing your carbon footprint without any extra effort – this is so simple.

Will the warranty be affected
The vehicle industry has assured customers that the use of E20 (20 percent ethanol mixed) petrol will not affect the warranty of vehicles. Prashant K Banerjee, Executive Director of SIAM, an organization of the country’s vehicle manufacturing companies, said in a press conference on Saturday in response to a question that the use of E20 fuel will not change ‘warranty’. All warranty and insurance will be respected. “
SIAM and Fipy distance away
Along with SIAM and Indian Petroleum Industry Mahansgh (Fippi), a press conference organized by the Indian Vehicle Research Association (ARAI) was also present at the conference and senior officials of oil marketing companies and vehicle manufacturers. Its purpose was to remove the misconceptions spread among the common people on E20 fuel.

It was reported in the press conference that in 2010, vehicles were studied for vehicles E10 and in the year 2016 for E20 fuels. This was followed by a study in the year 2023. These studies revealed that the use of E20 fuel in vehicles manufactured for E10 fuel also has no ‘adverse effects’.
How much affect mileage will be affected
All the speakers present on the stage said that the reduction in mileage is the only loss while E20 has many benefits. He admitted that this leads to 2-6 percent decline in mileage of vehicles compared to E10. This causes less damage to the environment because ethanol is purely carbon absolute fuel. Also, foreign currency spent on crude oil imports is saved to the same extent. At the same time, money goes to the farmers of the country, which makes their financial condition good.
