New Delhi: A political storm has erupted in the Karhal constituency of Uttar Pradesh amid the ongoing bypolls on Wednesday after a Dalit woman was allegedly gangraped and killed by local Samajwadi Party who had been pressuring her to not vote for the BJP.
The 23-year-old’s body was found stuffed in a sack in the morning the day hours after she went missing from her home. A case has been registered against two accused in this connection based on the victim’s father’s complaint and both have been arrested, Mainpuri SP Vinod Kumar said.
The accused have been identified as Prashant Yadav and Mohan Katheria, he said, the girl’s parents have given their statement claiming their daughter was murdered by the duo to prevent her from voting for the BJP.
The victim’s father alleged that three days ago, Prashant Yadav visited their home and asked his daughter which party she intended to support. She replied that she would vote for the ‘lotus’—the BJP’s symbol—because her family had got a house built under the PM Awas Yojana. According to the father, Yadav then threatened her and demanded that she vote for the ‘cycle,’ the election symbol of the Samajwadi Party.
