Ekadashi fast has special significance in Hindu religion. There are two Ekadashi fasts every month, one in Krishna Paksha and the other in Shukla Paksha. In this way there are 24 Ekadashi fasts in a year. Ekadashi fast is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is believed that by observing Ekadashi fast one gets as much virtue as feeding Brahmins. When can Udyapan of Ekadashi fast be done?

According to Pandit Astrologer Narendra Upadhyay, Udyapan of Ekadashi fast should be done as per the wish. Some people resolve to observe Ekadashi fast on 5, 11, 21 or as per their capacity and after completing the fast, do Udyapan. According to astrology, Udyapan should be started only after observing 24 Ekadashi fasts of the year.

In which month should Ekadashi fast be observed?

Ekadashi fast should be started only during the enlightenment time of the Gods. Especially, Ekadashi fast should be observed on Margashirsha month, Magh month or Bhim Tithi (Magh Shukla Ekadashi).

When should one not observe Udyapan of Ekadashi fast?

Udyapan of Ekadashi fast should not be done in Chaturmas. Lord Vishnu remains in Yoga Nidra during Chaturmas.

What to do if you miss Ekadashi fast?

If for some reason or by mistake the Ekadashi fast is missed, then the next Ekadashi fast should be observed properly. If for some reason the fast is broken, the fasting rules should still be followed and one should apologize for the mistake while worshiping Lord Vishnu in the evening.

When should Ekadashi fast be broken?

Ekadashi fast should be broken after sunrise the next day. It is necessary to break the Ekadashi fast before the end of Dwadashi Tithi.
