Venu Udugula’s maiden prodution titled ‘Raju Weds Rambai’
Director Venu Udugula, whose last film Virata Parvam (2022) was about the rise of the Naxal movement in the 1990s in the Telangana region is now back with his maiden production venture.
His first production titled Raju Weds Rambai will mark the debut of writer-director Sailu Kampati. Along with the title, the director-turned-producer also announced the release date of the film— 14 February 2025.
The makers also released a one-and-a-half-minute teaser of the love story based on true incidents. In the teaser, the female lead introduces herself as Yanaganti Rambai and then speaks of her village in the Yellandu Mandal on the border of the Khammam and Warangal districts of Telangana. She then goes on to speak of her love story with Raju, who plays the drums in the village.
The female lead further calls her love a “teenmar”, a “domaar”, a “naagini”— all folk dances of Telangana. The poster has a backdrop of the drum and a statue of BR Ambedkar.
Speaking at the launch of the title, Venu Udugula said, “When Sailesh narrated the story, I liked it very much, especially the climax didn’t let me sleep for three days. It was the most diverse love story I ever heard.”
Venu Udugula is bankrolling Raju Weds Rambai under his banner Monsoon Tales along with Rahul Mopidevi of Dolamukhi Subaltern Films.
Suresh Bobbili is giving the music, while Mittapalli Surender is set to give the lyrics for the film. In the technical crew, Wajid Baig is leading the cinematography, Gandhi Nadikudikar is on production design, and Naresh Adupa is handling editing. The cast of the film is not yet known.
The makers are also collaborating with the streaming platform ETV WIN, for whom, this marks the first theatrical film.
