Former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira appointed head coach of Genoa
Rome, 21 November (Hindustan Reporter). Former Arsenal midfielder and France international Patrick Vieira has been appointed head coach of Genoa. The Italian Serie A team confirmed this on Wednesday.
Genoa have struggled since the start of the season, accumulating only 10 points after 12 rounds under former coach Alberto Gilardino, finishing one point above the relegation zone, which saw the Griffons knock the 2006 World Cup winners out. Showed the way.
Starting his professional career at Cannes, Vieira spent a short stint at AC Milan before moving to Arsenal, where he rose to fame during a nine-year tenure. The midfielder also played for Juventus, Inter Milan and Manchester City before hanging up his boots in 2011.
Following his retirement, the Frenchman took up a role as a youth coach at Manchester City. The 48-year-old also had stints with New York City FC, Nice, Crystal Palace and Strasbourg.
According to Italian outlets, Vieira has signed a deal until 2026.
Vieira’s first match since taking charge of Genoa will be a home clash against Cagliari on Saturday.
