New Delhi, 21 November (HS). The country’s prestigious public broadcaster Doordarshan has forayed into the OTT (over-the-top) platform sector to meet the growing demand for digital streaming services. Goa Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant launched the OTT platform ‘Waves’ of the national public broadcaster, Prasar Bharati, at the inaugural ceremony of the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa late on Wednesday evening. Information and Broadcasting Secretary Sanjay Jaju and other dignitaries were also present on this occasion.

The OTT aims to revive nostalgia while embracing modern digital trends by offering a rich mix of classic content and contemporary programming. With a library of evergreen serials like Ramayana, Mahabharata, Shaktimaan and Hum Log, the platform attracts audiences looking for a cultural and emotional connection with India’s past. Additionally, it provides news, documentaries and regional content, reinforcing its commitment to inclusivity and diversity. Leveraging its decades-old heritage and national trust, Doordarshan’s OTT platform bridges the gap between traditional television and modern streaming, reaching out to tech-savvy youth and older generations alike.

‘Waves’ is available in more than 12 languages ​​including Hindi, English, Bengali, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, Gujarati, Punjabi, Assamese. It will be available in 10 styles of infotainment. It will offer video on demand, free-to-play gaming, radio streaming, live TV streaming, 65 live channels, multiple in-app integrations for video and gaming content, and online shopping.

Waves also featured ‘Fauji 2.0’, a modern adaptation of Shah Rukh Khan’s famous 1980s serial Fauji, Oscar winner Guneet Monga Kapoor’s ‘Kicking Balls’, a crime thriller ‘Jackson Halt’ and ‘Jaiye Aap Kahan Jayenge’ based on a mobile toilet. Will go.
