This umpire is struggling between life and death, a very painful accident happened on the cricket field, the soul will tremble after seeing it
Cricket News Desk. The game of cricket is considered as exciting as it is dangerous. Many such accidents have happened in this game, due to which even lives have been lost. Due to this, the priority of safety standards has increased significantly in modern cricket. This applies not only to the players but also to the umpire present on the field. In view of the accidents that have occurred on the cricket field in the last few years, umpires have also started using helmets and handguards.
However, only a few umpires were seen with such security guards. This is the reason that every day some umpire gets injured during the match. Sometimes it even comes at the cost of life. Something similar happened with Western Australia umpire Tony de Nobrega who is battling for life and death in the hospital.
Tony de Nobrega is under the supervision of doctors
Let us tell you that senior cricket umpire Tony de Nobrega was officiating in the Western Australia Suburban Turf Cricket Association (WASTCA) third grade match between North Perth and Wembley Districts at Charles Weyard Reserve. Meanwhile, the batsman hit a fast straight drive which hit Tony directly on his face.
After this injury, Tony was immediately admitted to the hospital. The good thing was that the bones of Tony’s face were safe. In such a situation, the doctors refused to perform surgery. However, he is currently under the observation of doctors.
Umpire has died after being hit by the ball
Tony de Nobrega is not the first umpire to suffer a serious injury while officiating. An 80-year-old umpire named John Williams died after being hit by a ball in Wales in 2019. The ball hit John Williams and he went into a coma and died within a few days.
Something similar happened in 2014 when Israeli umpire Hillel Oscar died after being hit on the head by a ball. Let us tell you that umpires like Gerard Abood have been seen wearing helmets as a protective measure during matches. Retired umpire Bruce Oxenford is seen wearing a plastic arm shield.
