Demand for possession of Red Fort, Sultana Begum’s petition dismissed from SC
Supreme Court
New Delhi: The Supreme Court has dismissed the petition filed by Sultana Begum, widow of the Mughal Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar (II). Sultana Begum, in her petition, had demanded the possession of the Red Fort in Delhi, describing himself as the legal heir of the Mughal emperor. A bench headed by Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna described the petition as “absurd”.
Earlier, Sultana Begum’s petition has been dismissed by the Delhi High Court. The High Court’s decision was challenged by Sultana Begum in the Supreme Court. A bench headed by Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna dismissed the petition in a jolt and said that this is a completely bear-foot petition. Also, it also said that it is not worth the hearing.
Petition was first filed in 2021
Sultana Begum lives in Howrah near Kolkata. He first filed this petition in the High Court in the year 2021. He hoped that the government would pay attention to his point on this pretext and would give at least some financial help, but nothing like this happened.
“Why only Red Fort, why not Fatehpur Sikri”
The Delhi High Court had dismissed the petition citing a delay of more than 164 years in filing the case. At the same time, when the Supreme Court heard the matter today, he dismissed this petition and said why not only the Red Fort, why Fatehpur Sikri, why were they left too.
