‘Parliament is Supreme’, amid criticism again Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar made a big statement – Cross Talk India
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has once again waged a new debate on Tuesday. He has questioned the Supreme Court’s remarks amid the judiciary vs. executive debate. The Vice President criticized the judicial “encroachment of rights” and reiterated that “Parliament is the highest”. Jagdeep Dhankhar recently targeted his critics who questioned his comment on the order of the Supreme Court, saying that every word spoken by the Constitutional Authority is directed by the highest national interest.
‘No one above Parliament in the Constitution’
A bench of the apex court had recently set a 3 -month deadline to take a decision on the Bills stopped by the governors. Reacting to this, Dhankhar had said that the judiciary cannot play the role of “Super Parliament” and cannot come under the jurisdiction of the executive. Addressing a program of Delhi University, he said that every word spoken by the constitutional officer is inspired by the highest interest of the nation.
He said, “I understand that some people have recently expressed the idea that constitutional posts can be formal and decorative.” Nobody can get away from misunderstanding about the role of everyone in this country – whether it is a constitutional officer or a citizen. “He also said that no authority has been imagined above Parliament in the Constitution. He insisted, “Parliament is supreme.”
‘We had never imagined democracy for this day’
Expressing concern over the recent Supreme Court verdict, which set a deadline for deciding the Bills by the President, Dhankhar said last Friday that India had not imagined democracy where judges would make laws, do government work and serve as “Super Parliament”. Earlier this month, the Supreme Court had decided for the first time that they would have to take a decision within three months from the date of receiving the reference on the Bills stopped by the Governor for the approval of the President. Dhankhar said, “Recently a decision has been instructed to the President … We had never imagined democracy for this day. The President has been asked to take a decision in a timely manner and if it does not, then this (bill) will become a law. ”
The Vice President was criticized for questioning the judiciary when the President set a deadline for deciding. He said that this is “unconstitutional”. (With language inputs)
