A group of 28 Kerala people went missing in Dharali, left for Gangotri from Uttarkashi
There has been a huge havoc in Dharali village of Uttarakhand.
Uttarkashi: The floods caused by cloudburst and landslides in Dharali village of Uttarakhand on Tuesday have caused huge havoc. Relief and rescue operations rose on Wednesday, in which a body was recovered and 150 people were evacuated. However, due to rain and landslides, there is a lot of difficulties in rescue operations. Around 50 people, including a group of 28 Keralas, are still missing. According to reports, this group was going from Uttarkashi to Gangotri and has not yet been ascertained. Many areas of the state including Uttarkashi are expected to have strong rains in the next 18 hours.
Dead body recovered from debris
The Uttarkashi Disaster Control Room reported that the recovered body has been identified as 35 -year -old Akash Panwar. After a cloudburst on Tuesday, half of the village of Dhali was washed away in the wrath, mud and water in a strong current. Many houses, hotels and vehicles were destroyed in the village. A group of 28 Keralas, who was going from Uttarkashi to Gangotri, is also missing. A relative said, ‘He left for Gangotri at 8:30 am. There was a landslide on the same path and since then they have no idea. ‘
Bad weather affects rescue operations
Mohsin Shahedi, Deputy Inspector General of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), said that 3 teams of NDRF left for Dharali, but the Rishikesh-North Kashi highway is closed due to continuous landslides. 2 teams were to be sent from Dehradun via helicopter, but bad weather impossible it. Army, ITBP and SDRF teams are engaged in relief work on the spot. Gangotri National Highway is closed at many places and a bridge over the Limcha River in Ganganani was also swept away in floods.
People were gathered on the occasion of every milk fair
11 army personnel are also missing near Hrshil. Nevertheless, Col. Harsh Vardhan, Commanding Officer of 14 Rajasthan Rifles, is engaged in relief work with a team of 150 soldiers. Defense spokesperson Lt Col Manish Srivastava said, “Our team is working with full enthusiasm.” The Indian Army has prepared Mi-17 and Chinook helicopters, which will fly as soon as the weather is clear. Please tell that there is a major stop on the way of Dharali, Gangotri, where every milk fair was going on. During this time many people gathered there.
‘Our hotel and home all swept away’
A local person said, ‘There was no contact with my brother, his wife and son since 2 pm. Our hotel and house were all swept away. The CM has assured that the search will start with the helicopter when the weather is cured. Let us know that there is heavy rainfall in many parts of Uttarakhand. Mandakini in Rudraprayag, Banganga in Haridwar and Bhagirathi river in Devprayag are flowing above the danger mark. The Haridwar-Rishikesh-Dehradun rail route is also closed due to landslides in the Motichur range of Rajaji Tiger Reserve. Help desk has been built for passengers at Haridwar railway station.
Possibility of heavy rains in many areas including Uttarkashi
In the next 18 hours, there is a possibility of heavy rains at different places in Almora, Bageshwar, Chamoli, Champawat, Dehradun, Haridwar, Nainital, Pauri, Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag, Tehri, US Nagar and Uttarkashi, with heavy to heavy rains, thunderstorms and lightning very intense rains with heavy rain and lightning.
