A huge dam will be built on Mahi river of Gujarat for Rs 429 crore, 49 villages will benefit greatly

Ahmedabad. Bhupendra Patel government of Gujarat is continuously working to take the state forward in every sector. Work on many big projects is also being started under development works in the state. In this context, a good news has come from Vadodara, a project worth crores is going to start here on Mahi river. This project will benefit 49 villages of Savli and Umreth taluka.

Let us tell you that a huge dam will be constructed on Mahi river near Poicha village of Savli taluka at a cost of Rs 429.76 crore. With this, 49 villages of Savli and Umreth taluka will get irrigation water. There is a plan to construct Poicha Kanoda Weir between Vanakbori Weir and Sindherot Weir on Mahi River. The construction of this dam will benefit 34 villages of Savli taluka and 15 villages of Umreth taluka. Drinking and irrigation water will be provided to about 77 thousand people of Savli Nagar and 40 surrounding villages. Upstream of this dam, water can fill up to about 15 km and 4 km on both sides of the river. Ground water irrigation can be done over a wider area.

490 wells will be recharged

This dam will recharge about 490 wells of 49 villages. Due to which the groundwater level will increase. Along with agriculture, Savli is also a bustling center of industrial units. With the construction of this dam, Savli and its surrounding industries will get sufficient water for industrial use, and the 90 lakh square meter lake formed from this dam will also promote fisheries and animal husbandry.
