A stampede occurred after an explosion in the school of Central African Republic.
Bangui: The explosion at a high school in Bangui, the capital of the Central African Republic, took the form of a painful tragedy on Wednesday and the stampede. 29 school students died in the incident, while more than 250 people were injured. This information was released on Thursday by the Ministry of Education and Health.
How exploded?
The accident occurred at the Barthelemi Boganda High School when an electrical transformer installed in the campus was being restored again after repairing it. There was a horrific explosion during the repair itself.
Most of the victims
According to the Health Ministry, most of the people, including 16 girl students, died on the spot in the stampede after the explosion, while some others died in the hospital. More than 250 injured are being treated in various hospitals in the city.
5,000 students were present during the exam
At the time of the incident, about 5,000 students were present in the school to take the exam. According to eyewitnesses, there was a sudden loud bang in the midst of the examination, causing chaos. Student Elvin Yaligao said, “The building started shaking, everyone got nervous. People started running to save their lives.” Some students jumped from the building to save their lives, killing them, while some lost their lives in a stampede on the upper floors.
Government ordered inquiry
The government has ordered an inquiry into a deep condolences on this horrific incident. This accident raises questions about the plight of infrastructure in the country and ignoring the security standards. (Language)
