Mumbai : Global warming is affecting the entire world, the environment. Vighnaharta Ganaraya is going to remove this obstacle. But we need our participation to preserve the environment. In accordance with this, as per the instructions of the court, instead of ‘POP’, which is harmful to the environment, the Mumbai Municipal Corporation is emphasizing on celebrating the eco-friendly Ganeshotsav next year as well by making Ganesha idols made of Shadu clay. However, for this, an ‘action plan’ will have to be prepared and implemented in a phased manner, considering the business, Ganeshotsav mandals, financial turnover and sculptors, artisans who depend on the said business, Mumbai Municipal Corporation Additional Commissioner Ashwini Bhide has asserted. Ganeshotsav competition is organized every year by Brihanmumbai Municipal Public Relations Department. In this year’s competition in Mumbai, Ganeshotsav was celebrated in an excellent and environment-friendly manner. The winners of this competition were distributed prizes by Additional Commissioner Ashwini Bhide and Deputy Commissioner Ramakant Biradar by Mumbai Municipal Corporation at the Municipal Auditorium on Tuesday. On this occasion, Municipal Secretary Sangeeta Sharma, Assistant Commissioner (D Division) Sharad Bhoke, Chairman Brihanmumbai Public Ganeshotsav Coordination Committee Adv. Naresh Dahibankar, All Public Ganeshotsav Federation Executive Suresh Sarnobat along with judges of the competition were present.

Mumbai Municipal Corporation is striving to make Ganeshotsav in Mumbai the biggest eco-friendly Ganeshotsav in the world. This year, steps have been taken from that point of view. Public Coordination Committee in Mumbai, all the boards have cooperated with the Municipal Corporation for this. Additional Commissioner Ashwini Bhide said that the efforts made by Ganesh Mandals this year for environmental friendliness are commendable.

This year, 35 percent of the two lakh household Ganesha idols in Mumbai were eco-friendly. This year, the eco-friendly Ganeshotsav has really started. Using Ganesha idols of ‘POP’ and immersing them in water affects the environment. The court has given instructions regarding the celebration of Ganeshotsav which is environment friendly. Therefore, this year, the Municipal Corporation provided free Shadu soil and space for idol makers in every department. This year’s Ganeshotsav was held in a peaceful atmosphere in Mumbai. Police and other agencies also cooperated, said Ashwini Bhide.

On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner (Circle 2) Ramakant Biradar said that the Municipal Corporation is making every effort to solve the problems of the Mandals and for an environment-friendly festival for the Ganeshotsav to take place smoothly. Brihanmumbai Public Ganeshotsav Coordination Committee Chairman Adv. Naresh Dahibankar and Suresh Sarnobat, Executive Officer of Akhil Public Ganeshotsav Federation, said that in view of the court’s instructions, it is necessary to celebrate the environment-friendly Ganeshotsav in Mumbai.
