Actor Achyut Potdar dies at the age of 91, memorable roles played in films from ‘3 Idiots’ to ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’
On August 18, Bollywood and Marathi film industry lost a veteran actor. Achyut Potdar, whose face innocence and the naturalness of acting used to leave an indelible mark in the hearts of the audience, now we are no longer among us. He had been struggling with age related diseases for a long time.
Deep imprint in films and TV
Achyut Potdar acted in more than 125 films and more than 100 TV shows in Hindi and Marathi cinema.
His famous films include 3 Idiots, Lage Raho Munnabhai, Tezaab, Hum Saath Saath Hain, Rangeela, Ardh Truth, Parineeta, Vaasta, Ishq, Dabangg 2 and Marathi film ventilator.
His dialogue in ‘3 Idiots’ became so famous that even today it is remembered in mimes on social media.
Identification in late film industry
Interestingly, Achyut Potdar stepped into the world of acting at the age of 44, that too without any formal training. At this age, while people think of retiring from career, Potdar made acting a new life.
Army to professor and then from Indian oil
Before the film’s career, the life of Achyut Potdar was equally interesting. After college, he started a career as a professor in Rewa (Madhya Pradesh). He then joined the Indian Army and retired from the post of Captain in 1967.
His long career was then in the Indian Oil Company, where he worked for 25 years and retired in 1992. Meanwhile, he started acting and gradually made his own identity in films and TV shows.
