Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif pleaded at the conference of glacier conservation.

The strategy of ‘water strike’ India has adopted after the Pahalgam terror attack, there has been an outcry for water in Pakistan. There has been a wave of concern among the farmers due to lack of water from river canals for kharif crops. From the Indus-Jhelum to the Chenab river, the flow of water is very low. Due to fierce heat and lack of water, there have been wide cracks in the fields.

Shahbaz, who is beggar, cried on India’s decision

Lack of water has become a serious problem for crop sowing in Pakistan. India has reduced the water flow of the Chenab River, which has led to a shortage of water in major dams of Pakistan. Due to this, Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif pleaded at the Glacier Conservation Conference in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. He cried out on India’s decision to cancel the Indus Water Treaty. The situation has arisen in Pakistan due to cutting of water supply towards India, it is clear that now Shahbaz Sharif and Asim Munir may have to bow to the world for every drop of water.

What did Pakistan allege?

Pakistan has alleged that India has reduced the flow of water in the Chenab river in large quantities. Pakistan’s Water and Electricity Development Authority (WAPDA) has informed that in the last 2 days, there has been a sharp decline in the flow of water in the Chenab river. According to WAPDA data, on May 29, the water flow on the Marala Headworks was 98,200 cusecs, which fell to only 7,200 cusecs by June 1. Although this cut has not been officially confirmed by India, Pakistan is considering it as a strategic warning of India.

What did IRSA say?

The Indus River System Authority (IRSA) has described heavy fluctuations in water flow in the Chenab River as a matter of serious concern. IRSA spokesperson Khalid Idris Rana said that the decrease in the water flow of Chenab by India is not only threatening kharif crops, especially rice. Also, water storage of Mangla Dam can also be affected.

Why did India stop water?

After the Pahalgam attack on 22 April, India announced on 23 April that it would no longer bring the Indus Water Treaty into practice. The central government clearly says, “Blood and water cannot flow together.” That is, when terrorists are shedding blood in India since the land of Pakistan, then watering Pakistan is against the national interests.

What will Pakistan do now?

Let us know that there has been a stir in Pakistan after India has reduced the flow of water in the Chenab river. Especially it is having a profound impact on the cultivation of Punjab province, where the Chenab River is considered a lifeline. After India put the Indus Water Treaty in cold storage, this step is becoming a double hit for Pakistan. Canals like the Chenab River’s Upper Chenab and BRB (Bambavali-Ravi-Badian) irrigate thousands of acres of agricultural land in Pakistan’s Punjab province. But now the sharp decline in the flow of water has raised the alarm bell on crop production. Now the question is whether Pakistan will curb its terrorist policies or will be ready for a big disaster?
