After passing under which tree, Kavadis cannot offer water on Shivling, know the rules
kanwad yatra ke niyam: As the month of Sawan arrives, Shiva devotees get a wonderful enthusiasm and devotion. The shouts of ‘Bol Bomb’ echo all around and there is an inundation of saffron clothing kawandis on the streets. This holy Kandar Yatra is a symbol of unwavering reverence towards Lord Shiva. Devotees fill Ganga water with holy rivers, walk hundreds of kilometers and perform Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva. There are many beliefs and rules related to the Kavad Yatra, which are considered very important to follow. If any of these rules are broken, then the kavad of Kanwari is considered fragmented. One such rule is not to pass through the sycamore tree, after which Kanwariya cannot offer water. After all, why is this rule and the secret behind it? Let’s know.
Very dear to Shiva: Sawan and Kanwar
Both the month of Sawan and the Kanwar Yatra are very dear to Lord Shiva. In Sawan, Lord Shiva resides on earth and show special grace on his devotees. The Kanwar Yatra is a difficult but fruitful medium to please Mahadev in this holy month. Devotees travel this journey to fulfill their wishes and attain salvation. Some strict rules are followed to maintain the sanctity of this journey.
What is the secret of sycamore tree:
The rule of not passing under the sycamore tree during the Kavad Yatra is based on a deep mythological and religious belief. There are mainly two reasons behind this:
1. Inserts in sycamore and impure: According to mythological beliefs and folk tales, sycamore fruits often contain small invisible insects. It is believed that these insects are impure, and if a kanwadia passes under the sycamore tree, these insects or their parts can fall into Ganga water. Ganga water is considered extremely sacred, and any kind of impossible entry into it is prohibited. If the Ganges water becomes impure, it cannot be offered on the Shivling, and the Kavad Yatra is considered fragmented. This rule is designed to maintain the sanctity and purity of Ganga water.
2. Sycrooted is considered negative: In some other religious beliefs, the sycamore tree is somewhat connected to negative energy or special types of powers. It is believed that the sanctity of the kanwadis may be disturbed by passing it under it or a negative effect on its journey. However, this recognition is not as strong as insect recognition. The main emphasis remains on the purity of Ganga water.
What happens when the rule is broken,
If a kanwadia inadvertently passes under the sycamore tree, then the Ganges water filled in his kavad is considered fragmented. In such a situation, he cannot offer that water on the Shivling. He has to resume the journey by either filling a new Ganga water, or he has to immerse that water at a holy place and anoint it with another holy water. This rule reflects the sanctity of the Kandar Yatra and the loyalty of the devotees towards it.
