After PM Modi, President of this neighboring country will visit Maldives

Colombo: India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently visited the Maldives for a two -day visit. PM Modi was welcomed by Maldives President Moaz Mujju at Velana International Airport in Male here. After PM Modi, Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Disanayake will go on a three -day official visit to Maldives on Monday. The Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry said that Disinayake will travel to Maldives from 28 to 30 July on the invitation of Maldives President Mohammad Mujju. The two presidents will hold bilateral talks and sign several MoUs (MoUs).

Disanayake’s first Maldives visit

According to the Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry, the purpose of this visit is to promote cooperation between Maldives and Sri Lanka in mutual beneficial areas. This will be the first Maldives visit of Disanayake after being elected President in September last year. His first visit was from India. After that, he traveled to China and the United Arab Emirates. The yatra is taking place on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of establishing formal diplomatic relations between Maldives and Sri Lanka.

Did Sri Lankan Foreign Minister say?

According to Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath, a memorandum of compromise will allow citizens of Maldives to receive valid visas for one year. He said that a large number of Maldives residents come to Sri Lanka for health tourism. Sri Lanka is providing free tourist visas to the residents of Maldives since 2023.

Meanwhile, during PM Modi’s visit here, Maldives President Mohammad Mujju had said, “India has been the closest and most reliable partner of Maldives for a long time. Our cooperation has spread in many areas from security and business to healthcare, education and beyond, which affects the daily life of our citizens, which is clear, my government is clear, a luxurious, intelligent economies and a fleeting economy. India’s partnership is invaluable to empower our youth, to ensure permanent peace and safety in our shared fields.

PM Modi and Maldives President Moazju also addressed the joint press conference. During this, Prime Minister Modi said, “India is the closest neighbor of Maldives. Maldives holds an important place in both the ‘Neberhood First’ policy and the ocean vision of India. India is proud to be the most trusted friend of Maldives. Be it disaster or epidemic, India has always been standing together as a first response. Has always worked together for us. (Language)
