On the third day in the final of the World Test Championship 2025, South Africa’s opener Aiden Markram not only kept the team’s dream alive by scoring a century but also recorded his name in cricket history, chasing the target of 282 runs of Australia and appearing on the South Africa match on the unbeaten innings of Australia.

South Africa was in danger of defeat after being all out for just 138 runs in the first innings, but in the second innings, Aidan Marakram batted amazing against the Australian bowlers. Aiden Markram has a special century in this final match as he has become the first South African batsman to score a century in the ICC tournament final. Along with this, Lords are also the first foreign openers in 41 years to score a century in the fourth innings. Prior to that, this feat was done by Gordon Greenies of West Indies in 1984. This is his third century in the fourth innings as an opener.

Third batsman to score a century in the World Test Championship final:

Aiden Markram completed his century with the help of 11 fours off 156 balls. This was the 8th century of his Test career, he became the third batsman to score a century in the World Test Championship final. Before him, only Steve Smith and Travis Head were able to achieve this achievement.

New history created in Lord’s

Aidan Marakrak has now become the third player to score a duck and century in the same Test at Lord’s. Before him, Michael Vaughan (2002) and Misbah ul Haq (2016) have done so. He has also registered a name in the special list of centuries installed by foreign batsmen in Lord’s in the fourth innings, including veterans like Sir Don Bradman, Michael Clarke, Gordon Greenies, and Ajit Agarkar.

A special moment for South Africa

Aiden Markram has made another record. South Africa has become the fifth player to take centuries and wickets in Tests in England. Earlier, giants like Bruce Mitchell, Graham Pollock and Jacques Kallis have done this.
