Air India has suspended the Ahmedabad-Gatwick flight from August 1 to September 30. Instead, the aircraft will fly to London Heathro Airport. Air India issued a statement on Tuesday saying that it will operate three weekly flights from Ahmedabad to Heathro from Ahmedabad from 1 August to 30 September, which will replace Gatwick in London.

Why did Air India take this decision?

This decision has been taken by Air India after reviewing flights under ‘Safety Pose’ and security check. On June 12, after a tragic accident associated with the AI 171 flight, Air India temporarily stopped some flights to conduct additional checking and safety of their Boeing 787 aircraft.

The airline currently operates 5 weekly flights to Ahmedabad-London Gatvik. Apart from this, Air India has also announced partial restoration of flights that were reduced to the Boeing 787-8 aircraft accident in Ahmedabad after their decision to take “security break”. 260 people were killed in this accident.

The deadly plane crash took place on 12 June

On June 12, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, going to London, started falling down soon after flying from Ahmedabad Airport. The aircraft entered a medical college hostel, killing everyone except one of the 242 people on the aircraft, and 19 other people also died on the ground. It was the deadliest aviation accident.

What was said in AAIB report?

The preliminary report of the AAIB released on Friday stated that both engines of the aircraft were taken from “run” to “cutoff”, resulting in fuel supply. The report states that in the voice recording of the cockpit, one pilot is heard asking why he did the cutoff, while the other pilot refused to do so. The preliminary report stated that the aircraft gained a maximum recorded air speed of 180 not IAS at around 08:08:42 UTC and immediately after that, the engine 1 and engine 2’s fuel cutoff switch switched from one run to cutoff positions with a interval of 01 seconds. The engine N1 and N2 began to decrease with their take-off values as soon as the fuel supply to the engines were closed. (With language inputs)
