Air India will start the Goa-Gatwick flight stopped after June 12 accident, know when you will be able to fly
Air India’s direct flight service between Goa and London (Gatvik) is going to resume after the horrific aircraft accident in Ahmedabad on 12 June. This announcement was made by Goa Tourism Minister Rohan Khantte in the assembly on Tuesday. According to PTI news, the minister said that by the end of September 2025, Air India will fly again on this route. He said that the state is proving better to get better air connectivity from the country and abroad.
Service was closed after June 12 accident
The Goa-Gatvic service of this route was temporarily closed after Air India’s flight crashed from Ahmedabad to London. 260 people including 241 passengers died in the accident. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant also recently assured in the Assembly that he would discuss with the Ministry of Civil Aviation regarding the restoration of flight service. At the same time, BJP MLA Michael Lobo said that this is the only direct flight that provides facilities for travelers coming from London to Goa.
Direct flights from Russia also start from October
The Tourism Minister also informed that from 5 October 2025, Aeroflot Airlines of Russia will start three flights a week between Yakaterinburg and Manohar International Airport in Goa. 210 passengers will be able to travel in each flight. Due to this, more than 13,000 Russian tourists are expected to come to Goa in the upcoming tourist session. The Goa government has recently launched new international air corridors with countries such as Poland, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, increasing the influx of foreign tourists in the state.
Goa tourism also beyond Kovid-East
Between January and June 2025, Goa welcomed 54.5 lakh tourists, including 51.8 lakh domestic and 2.7 lakh international tourists. This figure is 8.4% higher than the previous year. Only 8.34 lakh tourists reached Goa in June, which contributed cultural experiences like Sao Joao Utsav, Jungle Stay and Creek Tour. The hotel occupancy was between 70% to 100% during this period. In 2019, 80.6 lakh tourists came to Goa. In 2024, this number increased to 1.04 crore, including about 99.4 lakh domestic and 4.67 lakh international tourists.
