Airtel plans will be expensive?
Airtel is going to make its recharge plan expensive once again. The company has started indicating this. The company’s vice chairman and MD Gopal Vittal is in favor of increasing the tariff once again. In July last year, all private telecom companies, including Airtel, made their recharge plans expensive, after which millions of users had turned to BSNL. Once again private companies are considering making their plans expensive. However, currently Airtel has indicated this. Earlier, Vodafone-Idea CEO Akshay Mundra had also said to increase the tariff.
Company chairman indicated
According to a PTI report, Airtel Chairman and MD Gopal Vitthal said during the first quarter earning calls, “The pricing structure in India is quite odd. At or above the entry level, you get so much data benefits, calling and messaging, that you really have no reason to upgrade. This is an unfortunate situation where people (rich) can afford they are paying less and you know, we do not need to charge a fee from the poor anymore. ‘
For example, a user who has to pay Rs 199 for an entry -level plan, which gets unlimited calling, roaming and 2GB data. At the same time, on spending just Rs 100 more, users get daily 1GB of data and it reaches 3GB daily data, for which one has to spend Rs 449.
Airtel’s vice-chairman said that if India had a sensable pricing model like Indonesia, the average revenue per user (ARPU) would have been more. Airtel’s ARPU increased to Rs 250 in June 2025, which was Rs 211 a year ago. Consumption of mobile data in the network has also increased by 13.4% per month to 26.9GB. Despite increasing tariffs last year, the data plan in India is much cheaper than many developed countries. At the same time, Indian users are consumed in large quantities of internet data.
