The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has closed the case calling Rahul Gandhi a British citizen. The court said- Rahul’s citizenship reports could not be produced by the central government.

The court said- The petition cannot be kept pending only waiting for the report. Whenever the report is received by the Central Government, make a copy of it to the petitioner and also present it in the court.

The central government counsel said that the matter is related to sensitive information between two countries. Many reminders have been sent to the concerned country, but no response has been received so far, so some more time should be given.

The court said that the hearing of this petition is currently being completed. The petitioner has freedom that he can file a petition in any other forum or court related to citizenship.

In the last hearing, the court said- the delay will not work

In the hearing held on 21 April, Additional Solicitor General Suryabhan Pandey submitted the status report on behalf of the Center, but the court, considering it inadequate, made strict remarks- “This case is of national importance, will not be delayed.”

The court asked the Center, “Whether Rahul Gandhi is an Indian citizen or not? Explain in 10 days.” Surprisingly, no lawyer appeared in court on behalf of Rahul Gandhi.

In the petition, Rahul was described as a British citizen

Vignesh Shishir, who hails from Karnataka, has filed a petition claiming that Rahul Gandhi had described himself as a British citizen while being a director in a UK company. The petitioner cited the guidelines of the Election Commission, saying that a person having a dual citizenship is not eligible to contest the election.

Vignesh Shishir had demanded Rahul Gandhi’s cancellation of Indian citizenship under Section 9 (2) of the Indian Citizenship Act 1955.
